Charles began go-karting at the age of 8. At 16 he began racing cars in a historic 1960s Lenham sports car. In 2017 he was spotted racing in the Legends of Brands Hatch Superprix and asked to join MSV as an instructor. He was trained by MSV and has since progressed to hold an ARDS ‘A’ license.
Going ever quicker, Charles moved up to racing a Marcos 1800GT for 2018. He qualified on the front row on his first time out and secured pole position on his second. In his third race in the Marcos, Charles converted a pole position into an overall win. Also in 2018, Charles competed at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in John Rhodes historic 1965 Mini Cooper S race car.
In 2019, Charles would twice more return to Goodwood. At the season opening Members Meeting, Charles competed in a FIA Mini Coopers S. Out of 60 cars in two heats with fierce competition, Charles finished a commendable 24th overall. At Goodwood Revival, Charles shared a 1958 Volvo PV544 with touring car legend John Cleland. The pair battled faster machines with consistency and stamina, finishing the weekend in 2nd overall.
In 2020, Charles continued instructing, while it was permitted, and during a disrupted season he teamed up with the Pistonheads entry in the Enduro Ka race series. Looking to the future, the desire to race sports and GT cars on an international level lead to a move to the Porsche Carrera Cup GB.
2021 saw Charles competing in the nineteenth season of the Carrera Cup in the ex-Esmee Hawkey Porsche 911 GT3 Cup car. A double win at Brands Hatch GP rounded out an impressive debut season resulting in 3rd in the Pro-Am class
In 2022, Charles won the 2022 Porsche Carrera Cup Pro-Am category scoring 12 class victories and one overall victory in the final race of the season.
2023 saw Charles move up into the Pro category for his third season in the Carrera Cup GB championship. He placed P4, consistently finishing high up in the standings, gaining a total of 2 overall podiums and 1 overall win.
